A manual tamper is enough at low volume. An automatic press applies the same force every time, which is what starts to matter once one person is pulling shots all day.
Match the basket rather than the machine — 58 mm is the common commercial size, and our barista kit is 58.5 mm for a tighter fit. Tell us your portafilter and we'll confirm before order.
It levels the grounds before tamping so the puck compresses evenly, and a WDT needle breaks up clumps first. Used together they cut channeling; the tamper alone can't fix an uneven bed.
